Kim's convenience

Just watched the first three episodes of Kim's Convenience and hated it. But, the portrayal of a minority has often started from a mediocre comedy where most laughs come from the worst stereotypes, the very ideas that the show strives to discourage. Think of Mitch and Cam in Modern Family, premiered in 2009, and how they were the embodiment of gay stereotypes. And look where we are now in 2018. (I mean it's not great but we've seen great improvements.) Good show or bad, we need more Asian representation in White media. It will get better. We will find more talents. The jokes will be more subtle and sophisticated. Future shows won't have to devote so much energy to explain to viewers step by step what our culture looks like.
