My September book!
It is a "thriller" although it wasn't as gripping (or scary?) as some of the other thrillers I've read. Maybe it just means that it's more complicated and less violent. The protagonist suffers from a delusion, hence the title "little voices", where her alter-ego (can we call it that) constantly whispers to undermine her in every aspect of her life. The entire book screams imposter syndrome. An overachieving and obviously competent woman hates herself for.. being underachieving and incompetent. Eh. What's new.
But then, for the first in a long long time of my history of fiction-reading, the husband is not an asshole (hooray!). So that's new.
I'd like to explore other genres, but it's been hard. Maybe I should try re-reading classics like the grapes of wrath, catcher in the rye (which I used to love but all feminists seem to hate it so let's see what happens!), jane eyre, 1984, and the list could go on.. Maybe I can do that next year. 12 high-school must-reads revisited as a 30-year old. It would be fun.
